The Presiding Bishop of the Sword of the Spirit Ministries, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, on Wednesday, hailed the South-west governors for the Amotekun initiative. He described it as a 'noble idea' while calling on the government to legalize it.

Wale Oke, who is the incumbent National Deputy President of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria issued a statement to newsmen by his Media Officer, Mr Kayode Oladeji, in Ibadan.

In the statement, he acknowledged the foresight of the governors behind the initiative in ensuring the protection of lives and property of the people of the region.

He also commended the governors in the region for working toward the sustenance of peace, adding that development was impossible without peace and tranquillity.

He said, “The Amotekun initiative is a noble idea and we must commend the proponents, being the South-West governors."

He noted that the initiative is in tandem with the community policing philosophy of the Federal Government, therefore, the outfit would complement the efforts of other security agencies in the country to ensure the protection of lives and property of the people in the region.

However, he reiterated that it was imperative for the Amotekun initiative to have legal backing in order to protect it.

“it should be properly legalised by making sure South-West Houses of Assembly give it the needed legal teeth,” he said.

The Bishop, therefore, enjoined Nigerians to endeavour to put the country on the path of self-discovery and recovery.
