EFCC Decries UK’s Refusal To Extradite Diezani

Austin Papi

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has condemned the refusal of the United Kingdom to extradite the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke.

He noted that the amount of money allegedly embezzled by Diezani would be enough to lift Nigeria out of her financial crisis.

The EFCC in a long-lasting battle with Diezani made efforts to have the British government extradite the former minister to Nigeria so she can stand trial in Nigeria, but all efforts failed to yield any result.

Ibrahim Magu, made some assertions while receiving the “Institution of the Decade” award on behalf of the EFCC in ThisDay award ceremony held in Lagos on Monday. He said that the money allegedly stolen by Allison-Madueke and other looters would be enough to keep the “wheel of the nation’s economy rolling if recovered.”

EFCC’s Acting Head of Media and Publicity, Tony Orilade, on behalf of the Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu. also stated that the anti-graft agency had accumulated sufficient evidence to prosecute Allison-Madueke for the alleged financial malfeasance she committed while in office.

He said,

”We don’t want to keep chasing everybody as a suspect. We want everybody who has stolen from the commonwealth to bring it back to Nigeria, so as to use the monies to provide the needed infrastructure.”
