Lagos-Ibadan Rail Project: Pace Of Work Is Remarkable - Amaechi

David Ugbabe

The Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, on Friday, during the inspection of the ongoing work on the Lagos axis of the Lagos-Ibadan rail line stated that the improved pace of work is remarkable.

He made this comment while speaking to journalists at the Ebute-Metta Office of the contractors handling the project, the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).

Amaechi who was in company of the Managing Director, Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Mr Fidet Okhiria, and Chairman, Board of Directors, NRC, Malam Ibrahim Al-Hassan-Musa, was inspecting the project for the second time in the week.

The inspection commenced at the Ebute-Matta Station at 9:00 am, later moved to Apapa Port axis in a train ride on the narrow gauge line.

Although the minister had earlier frowned at the contractors on Monday, he noted an improvement in construction of stations and mobilisation of more staff to the sites.

Amaechi stated that, “Going from here to the sea port, you will see remarkable improvement”

The minister noted that adequate manpower and prompt delivery of equipment were very critical issues the contractors must look into for speedy delivery.

Hence he said: “I would be requesting from the chairman (of CCECC) that equipment must be commemorate to the volume of work and then manpower too must also be commemorate to the work.

“If they do that, we should expect that in three years time, they should deliver on the project.”

However, he declined affirming April delivery deadline, but said that the government was still hopeful.
