Herdsmen With Sophisticated Weapons Shot At Me On My Farm - Ortom

David Ugbabe

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has revealed that while visiting his farm around Markurdi metropolis, some herdsmen invaded the farm carrying sophisticated weapons, shooting at him and some livestock guards.

Ortom made this revelation while being featured on a program, "issue of the moment," at Radio Benue, stating that the herdsmen only dispersed after he invited troops of Operations Whirl Stroke.

He said, "I was on my farm within Makurdi town last week when some herdsmen shot at me and shot the livestock guards who were on the farm."

He further said, "I have to inform the Operation Whirl Stroke before the herdsmen ran away.”

The newly sworn-in governor for his second term in office, was aggrieved over the level of sophisticated weapons at the disposition of the herdsmen, while decrying the influx of Fulani herdsmen into the state.

"Many of these herdsmen carry AK47 and even AK49, you know that the latter is superior to the former and this is what some of the herdsmen are carrying,” he noted.
