The Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, on Monday, inaugurated the Sports secretariat complex prior to the 20th edition of the National Sports Festival which will be hosted by Edo State in March this year.
The new sport secretariat is located just around the Edo State Government House in Benin City.
It is also reported that the secretariat would serve as the venue for the coordination of competition, which will hold in different venues across the state.
After the inauguration of the complex, Obaseki, who spoke to newsmen, described the building as a world-class office with a conducive environment for work.
He further noted that the campaign for the National Sports Festival would begin in a week’s time, and President Muhammadu Buhari is scheduled to receive the torch of the game by the end of the month.
“I was flying over the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium today, you can see that the base for the track has been laid; the football pitch is ready, and the lawn tennis section is completed. The swimming pools are being furnished, so the key infrastructures we need for the game are almost ready.
“Athletes are being readied for camping. All measures that will ensure the success of the games have been taken care of,” Obaseki said.
Also expressing his joy for the inauguration of the edifice was the Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Phillip Shaibu, who indicated that the state is making sure it host the games to win;
”The Edo State Sports Festival holding from Feb. 10 would be used to select athletes across the 18 local government councils of the state to represent Edo during the NSF,” he added.
