Matawalle Vows To Deal With Yari Over Diverted Funds

The Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, on Tuesday, vowed to bring to justice all those involved in the scandal of over N90bn which was said to have been diverted.

The former Governor of the state, Abdulaziz Yari, has been allegedly linked with the fund diversion through inflation of contracts.

Speaking at the presentation of the interim report from the state’s projects verification committee, Matawalle stressed that he would make sure that the diverted funds were returned to the government and justice meted out to the perpetrators.

“I will implement the committee’s report to ensure that all those involved in the scandal were brought to justice," the governor said.

It was gathered that the committee, under the auspices of the chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Zabarma, had earlier told the governor that a large sum of money was revealed to have been diverted during the Yari-led administration.

According to Zabarma, the administration of Yari awarded 6,180 contracts across various locations in the state, between 2011 and 2019. Many of the contracts were said to be poorly executed or not done at all, while the contract sums were also inflated.

Therefore, Zabarma urged the governor to set up a committee of enquiry to retrieve the money.
