Funsho Akinwale

South-West governors have announced that they will on Friday, February 14, sign the commencement of Operation Amotekun, into law.

All legal hindrances associated with the delay of the western security outfit will be solved before the weekend.

The Friday time frame will be achieved by all the Houses of Assembly in the six states; Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti State.

They are expected to pass the regional security outfit’s operational bill for the governors to give assent on Friday, sources confirmed.

Briefing newsmen on Monday, Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi added that the decision of the governors to make the outfit operational was confirmed, when he received the bill’s draft from Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Olawale Fapounda (SAN).

The security outfit was last month launched before Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister for Justice Abubakar Malami declared the outfit illegal.

But with the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s intervention on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari, it was agreed that each of the states should legalise the security outfit.
