A 12-year-old boy has reportedly committed suicide in Agboala Ishiala, Umudi community of Nkwerre Local Government Area of Imo State.
According to reports, the young boy, identified as Kasarachi Odurukwe, was a primary six pupil of Practicing School, Umudi.
He was alleged to have hanged himself with a rope following the death of his parents.
It was also gathered that the boy, who was the firstborn, resided with his mother’s sister in Agboala Ishiala with his siblings before his demise.
The deceased had hitherto told his schoolmates that he wanted to die and meet his mother in heaven. He was also said to have complained that the world was cruel to him.
“A day before the incident, Kasarachi asked his two siblings and two other kids to follow him to a nearby stream to fetch water,” a close relative narrated.
“On getting to the stream, Kasarachi assisted the other children to fill their buckets while he used a long stick to check the depth of the stream.
“He was unsatisfied with the depth of the water and thereafter he took a rope which he tied to a bamboo tree. After failing on his first and second attempts to kill himself, the other kids begged him to stop, but he rejected all their appeals and tied the rope to a stronger bamboo tree which strangled him to death.
“Seeing that Kasarachi had succeeded in hanging himself, the other kids reportedly ran back to report the incident to the family members and village elders, who thereafter called the police.”
Reports suggest that the police have brought down the corpse of the teenager and deposited it in the mortuary.
