Visa Ban On Nigeria Temporary, Says U.S. Envoy

Funsho Akinwale

The U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Leonard, on Tuesday, disclosed that the visa ban placed on Nigeria and a few other countries is temporary. She added that if the necessary measures are taken by the Federal Government, the issue would be resolved.

Leonard confirmed that information such as sharing goals is one of the terms that must be fulfilled before the U.S. government can reverse the ban.

The US diplomat dropped the hints when she visited Labour and Employment Minister, Chris Ngige, in Abuja.

“I need to clarify something for you here, the immigrant visa ban does not affect people who are currently resident in the United States.

“It does not cancel the status of anyone who currently is in the United States.

“What Secretary Pompey said was something that was meant to be temporary.

“And it is about problems with information sharing, which are investigable, achievable and resolvable, and we look forward to Nigeria in a very short time being able to meet those information-sharing goal so that the decision can be reviewed,” she said.
