Some residents of Abeokuta, Ogun State, have been plunged into severe water scarcity, as the dry weather appears not to be in favour of dwellers in many rural areas.

Abeokuta, which is known to be a rocky environment, gets easily affected during the dry season, leaving its people to go round with various buckets and kegs in search of water.

In a recent observation, residents of Abeokuta appears to be inconvenient as they have to wake up as early as 4 am or stay as late as 11 pm to fetch water into their respective distant homes.

Areas affected include Panseke axis, Oluwo, Iyana Oloke, Idi-aba, Ewang extension, Abiola way axis, Kuto-Isabo axis, Quarry –Itaeko road, Lafenwa-Sokori Axis and others.

Speaking with one Bola Arowosafe, she said, “I am a student, it is usually not convenient waking up early to fetch water and having to still prepare for school. At the end, I get tired and fall sick.”

Another mother of three children said, ‘’ I have to go to work, prepare meals for the house and later go in search of water at night. Sometimes I do not see, then I would have to wake early enough with my children to look for ways to get water, the weather is really not favourable.”

One Dayo said, “it’s dry season, everywhere is dry. We can’t expect anything less than to pray for rain. Considering the fact that this is a rocky environment, one isn’t left with any option”

However, the resident called on the Ogun State Government to intervene in the provision of constant water supply to ease the stress of the people.
