Alake Speaks On Amotekun, Calls For Resolution

The Alake of Egba land, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, has called for an even resolution within all quarters as regarding the Operation Amotekun security outfit.

The alake, speaking at a press conference in Abeokuta to commemorate the 34th Lisabi Festival, emphasized on the need for security within the southwest region.

He said, “We cannot talk about peace by mouth. Only those living can protect themselves. This means we must ourselves but according to the laws and constitution of Nigeria.”

Recall that Operation Amotekun was launched by the south-west governors on January 9 to tackle security challenges ranging from kidnapping, terrorism, banditry, to vandalism, within the region.

Following the launch, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister for Justice Abubakar Malami, declared the outfit illegal, saying the Constitution has no room for a regional security outfit. He also said security is only on the Exclusive list.

Following the Vice President’s intervention on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari, it was agreed that each of the states should legalize the security outfit.

However, Oba Adedotun restated that all necessary quarter should be consulted for the take-off of the security operation, adding that “we have to rise to protect ourselves.”
