A High Court sitting in Ikeja on Thursday sentenced Afeez Baruwa, a former part-time lecturer at the University of Lagos, Akoka, to 21 years in jail for raping an 18-year-old girl seeking admission into the institution.

The 45-year-old father of two was a lecturer at the Department of Accounting in the institution before committing the crime.

Yhaqub Oshoala, who led the prosecution team, disclosed that Baruwa raped the teenager at 9.25 am on July 23, 2015, in Room 8, at the Faculty of Business Administration Annex building of the institution.

Justice Oyefeso, while delivering his judgement, said: “I find that the prosecution was able to prove to the charge beyond reasonable doubt with all elements needed to prove that the defendant is guilty as charged.

“Baruwa, I hereby sentence you to 21 years imprisonment, the maximum. That is my judgement.”
