Hearing Of Atiku’s Lawyer Adjourned Till March 9

Funsho Akinwale

Justice CJ Aneke of the Federal High Court, on Friday, adjourned the case of Uyiekepen Giwa Osagie, former Vice President Atiku’s lawyer, till March 9, 2020.

The adjournment came on the heels of the permission granted Osagie to travel to London for a medical appointment.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) re-arraigned the lawyer yesterday following the unlawful payment of $2m during the 2019 general elections.

Recall, Atiku lost the presidential election to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Osagie was accused by the anti-graft agency of making a payment with the sum of 2 million dollars during the election which is a culpable offence and violation of the provisions of Sections 18(a) and 1(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011.

The agency added that the defendants, the lawyer and his brother, were liable to be punished under Section 16(2)(b) of the same Act.

But the Giwa-Osagie brothers pleaded not guilty before Justice CJ Aneke.

They had earlier been arraigned in August last year before Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the same court.
