South African President Appoints Okonjo Iweala As Member Of EAC

Funsho Akinwale

South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, has appointed Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, as a member of the Economic Advisory Council (EAC).

The appointment was for a term of three years.

The appointment was informed by the economic downturn of the country, as it entered its second recession in two years.

The current economic woes of South Africa has made Nigeria the country with the strongest economy on the continent.

The former minister tweeted on Saturday that she met with President Ramaphosa and members of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council in Pretoria.

“With President Ramaphosa, members of cabinet, and members of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council in Pretoria discussing sources of growth for the South African economy and win-win economic interactions with the continent,” she tweeted.
