Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, paid a condolence visit to the family of late Inspector Ali Gomina, one of his escorts as well as the entire Gui community in the Abuja Municipal Area Council.

During the visit, he hailed the late officer as a man loved by many.

It was learned that the late Inspector Ali Gomina, 45, was one of the police escort riders in the Office of the Vice President.

He was involved in a road accident that claimed his life while on official duty on Friday 13th March 2020. Gomina was knocked against a moving tanker way ahead of the convoy on the expressway to the airport in Abuja, by a runaway Toyota Camry car.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media & Publicity, Laolu Akande, the Vice President arrived the community at about 3.45 pm accompanied by aides and was received by the Chief of the village, Alhaji Alhassan Yussuf, and other leaders of the community.

In his address, Osinbajo expressed sadness at the news of Gomina’s demise while adding that he served very dutifully and diligently.

He noted that he was at the scene of the accident and saw what had happened. “We are very pained by it. This is the reason we have all come, to commiserate with the family and the community,” he said.

However, he assured Gomina’s family and the community of government’s support. He said: “I am here today, myself, to see his children, and see what we can do to help the family, and in his honour, what we can do to help his community.”

He further promised to assist the community in whatever way possible.

“We will also see what we can do to assist the community in whatever way. God bless you, well done,” he said.

Prayers were offered by the Imam of Gui community mosque, Abubakar Jibril, and the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) pastor in the community, Pastor Adegbe Julius.

Meanwhile, Osinbajo interacted with the family of the deceased especially the widow, Asiya Ali Gomina, and his first son, Ali Kabiru Gomina, expressing his condolence and encouraging them.
