President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the suspension of the National Sports Festival less than six days to the event tagged ‘Edo 2020’.
This was announced on Tuesday by the Minister of Sports and Youths Development, Mr Sunday Dare, just after a meeting with the president.
He explained that the suspension was necessitated due to the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus (COVID -19).
He mentioned that over 11,000 athletes were expected to participate in the 20th edition of the sports festival, noting that it was safer to be on the side of caution than take the risk of proceeding with the event.
Meanwhile, the government is also considering the suspension of religious gathering and flights from high-risk countries.
