The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has suspended its weekly Community Development Service (CDS) activities indefinitely.

This was announced few days ago after closing down all orientation camps across the country.

The indefinite suspension of the Community Development Service (CDS) was declared in a press statement on Friday.

The statement, signed by the NYSC Director of Human Resource Management, Abdulrazak Salawu, said the CDS suspension was due to the outbreak of Coronavirus in the country and also around the globe.

The corps members across the country meet weekly in their respectively local government of placement and once in a month in their zones.

According to the statement, the CDS meetings have a large number of corps members and officials coming in close contact at different areas across the country.

It also ordered all Local Government Inspectors (LGI) to immediately comply with the directive so as to ensure safety.

The statement read, “Sequel to the pandemic of coronavirus globally and management’s concern for the well-being of the corps members nationwide, I am directed to inform you to suspend all Community Development Service activities until further notice.

“This obvious course of action is directed by circumstances beyond our control.

“The sudden changes in many countries warranting social changes between persons and isolation of persons on account of COVID-19 present no other option but to stop CDS activities because of a large number of numbers of persons in close contact.”
