COVID-19 Case Update: Total Number Of Cases Exceeds 7,000

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country is now 7,016, according to the official figures released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

With 339 new confirmed cases, 1,907 recovered and 211 deaths, the number of cases in the country continues to spike.

The new cases were recorded in 18 states, including Lagos (139), Kano (28), Oyo (28), Edo (25), Katsina (22), Kaduna (18), Jigawa (14), Yobe (13), Plateau (13), FCT (11), Gombe (8), Ogun (5), Bauchi (4), Nasarawa (4), Delta (3), Ondo (2), Rivers (1) and Adamawa (1).

Across the globe, over 5 million people have been infected with the virus and 333,000 lives have been lost.

On March 30, the Federal Government of Nigeria enforced a lockdown in the FCT, Lagos and Ogun States in an effort to contain the spread of the virus.

The lockdown was partially lifted on May 4 while restrictions on social and religious gatherings remained and an interstate lockdown across the country was introduced.

The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, also the Secretary of the Government of the Federation (SGF), announced on Monday, May 18, that the partial lift had been extended by another two weeks.
