Hmm, so the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage in a 5-4 vote last Friday, June 26… apparently that’s a really huge thing for the LGBT community and the United States as a whole.
The staggering amount of reception has been mind-blowing; you would think we just found a cure for cancer. A+ celebrities are taking to their social media pages to stamp their approval to the dawn of a new era:
“Love won,” Ellen DeGeneres tweeted with a hashtag: “#MarriageEquality.” Katy Perry‘s tweet reads- “Really encouraged to be an American today… Love should live beyond labels & intolerance! #LoveWins #EqualityForAll ❤️💛💚💙💜”, while Taylor Swift reveling in the news also tweeted – “And you can want who you want… Boys and boys and girls and girls.” #lovewins #FINALLY. And Mother monster herself, Lady Gaga was not left out as she tweeted simply – #Lovewins. It went on and on!
Celebrities and LGBT vibes:
Oh, the Rainbow colours (which symbolize pride for the gay community and plurality and love of life) were splashed any and everywhere! From the magnetizing view of the White House which showed its support by lighting up with bright stripes of the iconic Rainbow Flag just minutes after announcement, to YouTube, Facebook and various social media channels and brands changing their logo to infuse the rainbow theme, the reception has been pretty incredible!
Yeah, mega impressive it was, but I found myself wondering– How nice it would be if we could stick together for the sake of world peace, to eliminate poverty and fight for greater causes which would help better our world. The kind of passion gay rights have received can change the course of poor societies forever and end world tragedies.
My point? Let the passion for more urgent needs be as positive as we have seen in the last months as it concerns LGBT community.
Whether you are for or against this phase of life is really not the issue. We still have a world to adjust that should allow women and children in some parts of it live as freely as we have done for homosexuals et al.
Peace!
