The outgoing Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Wednesday morning, announced that he would be absent from the inauguration ceremony of his successor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He made this announcement in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Abib Haruna, a few hours to the inauguration.

He said the new governor deserves to enjoy his historic day without having him share in the glory with him, adding that Sanwo-Olu should be allowed to be the star of his inauguration.

“I have already formally handed over reigns of power in the state to the new Governor in a most cordial and convivial ceremony at the State House yesterday.

“The formal inauguration should have Mr. Sanwo-Olu as the star of the day. I don’t think that glory should be shared with him by my presence,” Ambode said in the statement.

In a bid to shun the inauguration, Ambode deliberately handed over to the incoming governor on Tuesday.

His action has, thus, shown that he is not happy losing his second term.
