Former Bauchi State Governor Spent ₦2.4BN On Burials In 6 Months - Ladan Salihu

Dr Ladan Salihu, the spokesman to the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has accused the preceding governor of the state, Mohammed Abubakar, of spending ₦2.3 billion from January to May 2019 on burials alone.

The mouthpiece of the Governor-Elect, Salihu, told journalists in an interview over the weekend that the previous government siphoned billions of naira illegally. He illustrated how the ₦900 million was spent in buying white clothes used for mummifying dead bodies, while ₦1.4 billion was used to buy casket used for burials.

“These monies which ought to have been appropriated by the assembly before expenditure, all of a sudden emanated from our treasury books. Could you imagine that a state government, within five months that is between January and May, 2019, spent well over N2.3 billion on funeral materials, the clothes that are used in wrapping dead bodies and the woods that you lace the graveyards with?

“The immediate past government spent N2.3 billion, that government did not spend a quarter of that amount in our own hospitals and clinics. They have the temerity to want to put up a show of shame,” Salihu said
