The Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC], Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has rated the electoral body as the most improved public service organization in Nigeria since he took charge and has undermined Prof. Attairu Jega’s 2015 reign as INEC Chairman.
Yakubu made this rating on Wednesday in a summit held to review the election conduct in the southern states region. Present in the summit were 387 Election Officers.
He also admonished his colleagues to make observations and positive suggestions that would help make electoral processes in Nigeria better. He wasted no time in teasing his audience, saying he missed the opportunity to be an Election Officer [EO], as he believes the EOs are key members of the organization.
"Without the EOs to engage the masses in proper electoral processes and guidelines we won't have a credible election," he acknowledged.
He further commended the EOs in the southern region for successfully registering a massive 14.2 million voters.
