Rivers State Governor Launches ‘Operation Sting’

To combat the increasing crime rates in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has launched a new security initiative, which consists of policy laid out to curb crimes in Port Harcourt. The policy is tagged 'Operation Sting'.

This new security policy was recently inaugurated at the Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt by the governor himself. In attendance were security agents and Rivers State dignitaries. Wike explained that the purpose of the operation is to abolish crimes and warn criminals that there will be no tolerance of illegal activities in the state. He also assured the people of the state that his administration would protect lives and properties.

"Operation Sting is our own specialized security initiative anchored on an integrated and coordinated approach fully funded by the Rivers State government to effectively tackle both the sources and drivers of insecurity.

“The operation is also to fight against every security threat to our state, our persons and our properties in order to create the right social environment to drive our development.

“Under Operation Sting we have taken concrete steps to strengthen the logistics and operational capability of the civil and armed security forces,” Governor Wike said.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Mustapha Dandawa, supported the governor's speech. He then assured the governor that the police force will utilize the logistical arrangements and operational equipment made available to them for the next one month.

The equipment handed to the security agents for the Operation Sting include:
• 76 full operational patrol vehicles kitted with high tech communication system
• 450 handheld mobile radios
• 2 Armored personnel carriers
• 8 Armored fitted gunboats
• Other basic ammunitions are inclusive.
