Minister of Communications, Dr Isa Ibrahim Pantami, has urged Nigerians to strive to be higher economically if they are to ever match the technological advancement of Dubai, the Mega-City located in the United Arab Emirates.
He added that Nigerians should understand the urgency in adopting Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in order to stand any chance of evolving the nation’s financial network.
He described digitalization as the only critical factor needed to make the country competitive among other nations in diaspora.
Dr Isa Ibrahim Pantami made this assertion on Sunday during the unveiling of the Nigerian Pavilion at the ongoing GgITEX 2019 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
While stating the importance of ICT, Pantami further explained that the time has arrived for Nigerians to compete other growing nations to match the incredible feat already achieved by Dubai.
The minister issued a direct challenge to all agencies under his ministry, imploring them to explore the new advancements in technology showcased at GITEX as a challenge and go home to domesticate them. That remains the sure way of bridging the digital gap, he insisted.
Lamenting the wide gap in the digital technology that exists in the country, he informed newsmen that Nigerians should see the development of ICT as a priority for the nation if they were hungry to move forward and be globally competitive.
Pantami said to realize the objectives of digital advancement, the government would need to encourage youth mentorship in Nigeria and seek people with crazy ideas that are wide enough to make the difference that the country desperately needs.
