Supreme Court Strikes Out PDP And Atiku’s Application

Bernard Femi

The Supreme Court, on Wednesday, ruled against the Peoples Democratic Party and its 2019 presidential candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, over the request of the PDP and Atiku demanding that their seven interlocutory appeals should be heard after the main one must have been argued.

Atiku and his party are challenging the outcome of the February 23 general election which pronounced President Muhammadu Buhari the winner of the election. A seven-man panel was formed at the apex court, with the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, leading the panel.

The seven-man panel, on Wednesday, settled down for the hearing of Peoples Democratic Party and Atiku’s seven interlocutory appeals which they termed as “unnecessary” since the judgement on the main appeal SC.1211/2019 would cover the case.

The PDP expressed their dissatisfaction over Justice Tanko’s ruling on the application. The PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, in a short statement described the ruling at the Supreme Court as non-professional and claimed: “Democracy has been buried.”
