Sadiya Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, has affirmed that the Federal Government is resolved in helping 90 million Nigerians who are currently living in poverty across the nation.

Ms Farouq recently disclosed this while presenting the 2020 budget for her ministry, which is estimated to be N44.21 billion as she sought the approval of the House Committee on Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees chaired by Mohammed Jega.

The minister said the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development was specially tasked with the responsibility of addressing the consequences of humanitarian crises and underdevelopment, which include the high level of poverty of nearly half (90 million) of the country's 198 million population.

She assured the committee that the new ministry under her tutelage would strengthen the disaster management efforts by stakeholders and coordination of humanitarian services.

Flooding has been combated by the ministry, as it has left many displaced in the north and some parts of the west. The ministry has set up Internally Displaced Camps (IDC), according to Ms Sadiya. She also asserted that she would welcome private investors to help improve the lives of the less privileged Nigerians.
