Bernard Femi

The Governor of Rivers State, Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike, has pledged his commitment to completing the ongoing Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro unity road by May 2020 to mark his one year anniversary in office.

The governor, who met with the council of traditional rulers of the state, assured them of good governance and delivering on his promise in his second term.

Urging them to support his administration, Wike confirmed that he had just released some funds to the contractor in charge of the project and the money will be used to finish the road. He added that the road in Opobo and Andoni towns would be completed and commissioned in the first year of his second term.

Wike affirmed that the Rivers State Government released N1.9 billion for the contractor who failed to execute the project, Queens Town project. He revealed that Dickson Associates Limited, owned by an indigene of Opobo, was the company which failed to deliver. He then thanked the traditional rulers and the Opobo-Nkoro people for their overwhelming support.

The governor commended the level of peaceful coexistence among the citizens and asked for more cooperation, as it would fasten development. He noted that the government’s plan is to extend the Sakpenwa-Bori Road to Kono Town.

He also commended the Opobo traditional ruler, King Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, King Douglas Dandeson Jaja.

“I did not make a mistake appointing you Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers. You have been very supportive. I urge you to continue to do the best for Rivers State,” Wike stated.
