Sowore Meets Bail Conditions, To Be Released On Thursday

Austin Papi

The detained convener of the #RevolutionNow protest, Omoyele Sowore, who is also the owner of the controversial news agency, 'Sahara Reporters', has finally met the bail conditions imposed on him after his extensive detention by the Department of State Service (DSS).

According to reports, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu had, on October 21, varied the bail conditions granted Sowore, and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare.

Recall that Sowore was charged by the Federal Government with treasonable felony and breach of peace in the nation. However, Justice Ojukwu granted the order on the application for bail variation on the accused, Sowore, in the last ruling.

She waived the earlier requirement, stating in court that Sowore should deposit N50m as security. She also reduced the amount attached to his cohort, Olawale Bakare's bail.

Justice Ojukwu also required that the defendants be remanded in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS) pending when they can meet the bail conditions. Hence, after meeting all the bail terms and surety on Wednesday, Sowore is set to be released on today.

The defendant counsel, Femi Falana, has informed the court that he wishes that his clients be released, as they have fulfilled all the bail conditions. He also informed the court that he has still not been granted access to his client to discuss the final court hearing.

“I had already asked my learned counsel for the prosecution, that we are confident that the defendants will be freed on Wednesday from the custody of the SSS having met the bail conditions imposed on them by this honourable court," Falana said.
