Imo Monarchs Back INEC’s Appeal Against Okorocha

Members of the Imo-West Council of Chiefs, led by Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, have thrown their weight behind the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the commission’s plan to appeal the Federal High Court’s judgment in Abuja.

The court had earlier ordered Senator Rochas Okorocha to be issued with the Certificate of Return for Imo West senatorial district.

You will recall that, in February, the commission failed to issue the lawmaker a Certificate of Return as an elected senator from Imo-West Senatorial District. This prompted the former governor to challenge the actions of INEC in court, with the Federal High Court in Abuja ruling in favour of Okorocha.

Ilomuanya stressed the need to remove evil from the state and this was the reason why they were appointed by the people to lead. The Eze of Obinugwu revealed that traditional rulers in Igboland under the auspices of Igbo Traditional Rulers Forum (ITRF) were in support of the decision of INEC to pursue the matter to a logical conclusion.

Professor Innocent Ibeawuchi, who was the Returning Officer for 2019 Imo West senatorial election, accused Okorocha of threatening his life with thugs. This prompted INEC to withhold the Certificate of Return that was meant for Okorocha.
