Why Some Presidential Aides Were Sacked - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the recent dismissal of some presidential aides was aimed at enhancing smooth service delivery to Nigerians.

He made this known upon his return to the country on Friday, after spending 15 days in the United Kingdom on a private visit.

The Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, affirmed that the president said the sack of those aides has been misinterpreted as an “ethnic and political'' act by perpetrators who are against the Buhari-led administration.

''They said 35 people were sacked in the vice president's office. We just created some ministries and we reorganized and people are giving it ethnic and political dimensions. It is unfortunate," the president was quoted as saying.

The statement from the presidency also indicated that the sacked aides mismanaged funds and government properties. To that effect, Buhari reassured Nigerians that his administration was working hard to ensure proper accountability from bottom to top tiers in the political terrain.

“Whoever is responsible for government property, [should know] it is public property, it is not personal and he has to manage it according to the law.

‘‘That’s what I expect and I think that we have been around long enough to impress on people that we mean what we say,’’ the president said.
