Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, Congratulates Kogi And Bayelsa Governor-Elects

The Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan, has congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidates on their victory in the just concluded polls in Bayelsa and Kogi.

Lawan implored the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take the challenges in conducting the election in these two states as a learning opportunity in improving their stead in the electoral process.

Senator Lawan also expressed his dissatisfaction with electoral offenders, calling on relevant agencies to prosecute electoral offenders as a deterrent to others.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, on Monday, Ola Awoniyi, Lawan rejoiced with the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, on his reelection and David Lyon for making history as the first governor of Bayelsa State elected on a platform different from the outgoing ruling party in the state.

The Senate President cheered President Muhammadu Buhari for maintaining a level playing field that enabled the people to assert their sovereignty and choose their leaders.

Lawan said, “The impressive turnout of voters in the two states is a ringing endorsement of democracy by Nigerians as their preferred system, notwithstanding its current challenges.”

The Senate president also praised security personnel on their efforts and diligence in security during this hard time. He urged the winners to be magnanimous and accommodating to all to foster development.
