The Ondo State Government, on Saturday, presented the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, with the staff and instrument of office as the 32nd monarch of the town.

He was installed as the monarch by the kingmakers of the ancient community in August 2019 after an election held in July, which he won.

The presentation of staff of office was done by the State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu. The Oba, at the event, which is said to coincide with the 1000th-year celebration of Owo’s existence, restated his commitment to preserving and promoting the community’s cherished heritage.

In his address, he urged all sons and daughters of the community to invest in the development of the town.

Oba Ogunoye pointed out that it was necessary for the youths to venture into agriculture as well as Information Communication Technology, saying that the future lies with the two sectors.

He said, "Our youths must come to terms with the reality that the era of white-collar jobs is gone."

Oba Ogunoye then urged the youths to go back to the farm, stating that "our land is so fertile to grow cocoa, coffee, palm kernel, cassava, yam and others in abundance."

The oba added that “The youths should be encouraged to explore legitimate opportunities in ICT, which is a fast-developing and beneficial sector now available for wealth creation. We will work towards the possibility of having an ICT hub in Owo.”

However, he decried the lack of basic skills among youths which they require to handle technical jobs, which have been taken over by foreign migrants (Togolese, Beninese, etc.).
