Fayemi Inaugurates New LG Chairmen, Sues For Accountability

The Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has charged the newly-elected chairmen of the 16 councils and their deputies to key into the five-point agenda of his administration.

The governor made this charge at the inauguration of the chairmen of councils and their deputies, where he stated that the aim of the agenda was to eradicate poverty and deliver the dividends of democracy to the grassroots.

“As the government at the grassroots, you have to ensure that people-oriented programmes and projects are made your priorities,” Governor Fayemi said.

He added, “While you should key into the state’s priorities, I also expect you to develop your own with your budget estimates, with the support of the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development."

Fayemi enjoined the new LG chairmen and their deputies to align with the state government’s policies and programmes as boldly and expressly enunciated in his five-point agenda of governance, agriculture and rural development, social investments, knowledge economy as well as infrastructure and industrial development.

Recall that the new council chairmen were elected on December 7, 2019, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
