Edo: “In Their Selfish Pursuit, The People Suffer,” PDP Slams APC

David Ugbabe

The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has decried the lingering crisis in the state as a result of the unsettled fracas between Governor Godwin Obaseki, and the immediate past Governor, Adams Oshiomhole stating that their selfish pursuit has been causing the people and the state to suffer.

Speaking on Tuesday in Benin, the State Chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih in his New Year message said, “In the past year, we have witnessed the unfortunate personality clash between the Governor Godwin Obaseki, and the immediate past Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, which has impacted negatively in the governance of the state."

He lamented that the cancerous effect of their avoidable crisis has snowballed into the current legislative impasse at the state assembly.

He lamented that, “In their selfish pursuit, the people suffer, the state suffers. Let us put the interest of the state above individual interest and give the state a fresh start."

As a result of the incessant clashes, Orbih said the situation in the state has led to call for prayers by royal fathers and the clergy.

“As a people, we have a tradition of facing the severest tests while working together to meet and overcome any adversity," he noted.

He noted that the situation calls for the collective action of the people to save the state from this dangerous path of politically motivated hostilities.

In spite of what he describes as obvious failures, the PDP Chairman called on the people to "try to reawaken our spirit and tradition to meet the challenges of our state."

In hope for the next general elections, he stated that “Edo PDP is anxiously looking forward to giving the state a platform to realize our dream for a better Edo.”
