Court Slams Shehu Sani With 10 Million Bail Condition

Funsho Akinwale

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Monday, granted Shehu Sani, a former member of the Senate, N10 million bail condition over fraud charges instituted against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice Inyang Ekwo, in his ruling, said the former senator must produce a surety who has a landed property worth 10 million naira in Abuja, before signing his bail bond.

His international passport was also ordered to be deposited in the court by the judge, preventing him from international trips until the case is resolved.

The judge, in conclusion, adjourned the hearing till February 24, 25 and 26, 2020, for trial.

Recall, Sani was arrested and detained by EFCC having allegedly received $15,000 from a businessman, Sani Dauda, under false pretence on November 20, 2019. He allegedly promised to give the money to Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Tanko Mohammed, in order to influence some pending cases in court.

He was also alleged to have separately collected another 10,000 dollars from the businessman to bribe the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu.
