The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Tuesday, ruled out plans to change its name ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Briefing newsmen after the National Working Committee of the party met yesterday in Abuja, Kola Ologbondiyan, the National Publicity Secretary, said the party have resolved not to change the name of the party as being planned by the party’s stalwarts.
He said the party would still maintain its name and rebuild the structure in preparation for future elections.
“The PDP has constituted a committee to review the 2019 elections. So those canvassing for change of name should be careful,
“I am also disappointed with the comments I read in the newspapers allegedly by a chieftain of our party of a plan to change the name of PDP. Please, count the BoT out of any effort to change the name of this party.
“We shall never allow it,” he said.
Ologbodiyan, in his statement, also expressed his displeasure over the defection of several members especially in Imo State after Emeka Ihedioha was sacked by the Supreme Court.
