The Senate has sworn in Senator Christopher Ekpenyong as a member of the National Assembly.
Ekpenyong took the oath of office on Thursday, an exercise supervised by the Clerk of the Senate, Musa Abdullahi, in the presence of the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan, and other members in attendance.
The senator defeated the former Governor Godswill Akpabio of the ruling party in the Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial rerun election.
Shortly before the election, Akpabio had announced his withdrawal from the race to concentrate more on his duties as the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.
Ekpenyong of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after the election, was declared the winner of the poll conducted recently in Essien Udim Local Government Council Area of the state.
