President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has played down the rumours which suggest that there are certain individuals among his aides and relatives, often referred to as “cabals,” or ”godfathers” who have an influence on his administration.
Mr Buhari, when asked during an exclusive interview with ‘The Interview Newspaper’, if there are Cabals with influence over his government, he responded;
“I was the one who went round the country on campaigns, and I was the one voted into office as President, twice. No one else did, and no one else took the oath of office, and can exercise the powers of a President,”
Contrary to the belief of Nigerians and most notable, the First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari, the president has come out to deny the claims that there is a ’cabal,’ who has a huge influence over the decisions of the presidency.
Recall, last year, Mrs Buhari had accused these alleged ’cabals’ of controlling her husband at the detriment of Nigerians, who had entrusted President Muhammadu Buhari with their mandate.
Some of the people often fingered as members of the cabal includes the president’s relative, Mamman Daura, his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, his associate Isa Funtua, and even the National leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.
Recently, Mrs Buhari had begged for the media aide to the president, Garba Shehu, to be relieved of his position after she accused him of receiving instructions from the alleged ’cabals’ and taking actions which were against her husband and the first family.
Mr Shehu, however, admitted the existence of cabal within the inner cycle of the presidency but he asserted that they are not “hungry people” rather, they are “respectable people who deserve respect because of their enormous achievements”
The National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, also described the existence of a group of people called cabal as a “myth” and fallacies to discredit the current administration of President Buhari by political perpetrators.
