Members of the Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday, removed Alhaji Labaran Abdul-Madari from office as majority leader, and immediately nominated and elected Kabiru Hassan-Dashi as replacement.

According to Muhammed Uba Gurjiya representing Bunkure local government who moved the for the impeachment at the floor of the assembly, the impeachment was a matter of urgent public importance and all house members of the leading All Progressives Congress (APC) have agreed on the matter.

Abdul-Madari's erstwhile deputy, Alhaji Kabiru Hassan-Dashi, was immediately announced as his replacement.

It was further reported that the session was presided over by the Speaker, Abdulazeez Garba-Gafasa.

Of the 28 APC lawmakers in the 40-member house, 23 unanimously supported the motion, which was seconded by Alhaji Ali Ibrahim-Shanono (APC Bagwai/Shanono).

Reasons for Abdul-Madari’s removal was not farfetched as it may not be unconnected with his confrontation of his colleagues, during the last plenary session where he vehemently opposed the nomination of a local government education secretary supported by other lawmakers.
