Edo Government Demands Oshiomhole’s Arrest For Conducting Rallies

The Edo State Government has called for the arrest of the suspended All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, for causing disorder and disruption of peace in the state by holding rallies in defiance of police orders.

The Edo government said Oshiomhole is bent on disobeying lawful order given by the state and the Inspector General of Police and has conducted frequent rallies in different parts of state despite the prohibition.

Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor, said in a statement that Oshiomhole is not above the law and will be brought to book.

He said he is in already in talks with the Inspector General of Police whom he had earlier written a petition as well as the director of the department of state service, demanding that the former governor be arrested for causing the breakdown of law and order in Edo state.

He added that Oshiomhole must be interrogated for disregarding directives of the law. He said "I am in Abuja to meet with the Inspector-General of Police. I have a petition to him and the Director of Department of State Services to the effect that Comrade Oshiomhole be arrested for the breakdown of law and order that he has consistently perpetrated in Edo.

“We banned rallies; the IG in a letter also suspended rallies. He disobeyed the orders of the state government; he disobeyed the orders of the IG and feels that he is above the law.

“For us, we have officially come now to drop our petition with the IG to the effect that Oshiomhole is not above the law. He should be arrested for violating the state government order."

Regarding the allegations that he betrayed Oshiomhole, he said "Oshiomhole remains my father and I remain his son even though we are on different pages politically and it is bound to happen.

“I am supporting Governor Obaseki because he has not changed what we believe in. He has not deviated from what Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole started and the foundation he laid."

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state yesterday, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to call Oshiomhole to order, saying that he is provoking the people of Edo state by causing havoc in the community.
