The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Chief David Lyon, as the winner of the last Bayelsa State governorship election.

Justice Mary Odili, who led the five-man panel, dismissed the appeal instituted by the former Minister of State for Agriculture Heineken Lokpobiri, who challenged Lyon’s nomination.

Justice John Inyang Okoro, who read the lead judgment, held that Lokpobiri’s case was statute-barred.

The Judge while addressing the court noted that political parties’ internal appeal process, which Lokpobiri blamed for filing his suit late, does not stay the running of time as contemplated under Section 285.
