Rochas Okorocha Shuns Imo Probe Panel

Funsho Akinwale

Senator Rochas Okorocha, on Thursday, shunned the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into contracts awarded in Imo State between June 2011and May 2019.

The panel was set up by the sacked governor, Emeka Ihedioha, and supported by the administration of Governor Hope Uzodinma, who urged the panel to continue the investigation.

The panel had on February 20, 2020, invited the former governor to answer questions about several contracts unlawfully awarded during his 8-year tenure.

But on Thursday, Okorocha failed to appear and no reason was given for his absence.

Okorocha’s lawyer, Osondu, said he could not reach the senator to know why he snubbed the commission.

He explained to the panel that Okorocha’s son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, confirmed that the senator was on another national assignment in the North and therefore requested for an additional adjournment to enable his client appear at a later date.

Justice iheka later adjourned the matter till Monday March 16, 2020, after listening to the prayer of Osondu.
