The Senate minority leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has stated that those who came on the platform of change have ended up even worse than those that they came to change.
He said this during a condolence visit to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, alongside by the Senate Minority Caucus on the occasion of his (Wike) uncle’s death.
Abaribe claimed that they understand the difficulty and pains every Nigerian is feeling today.
He noted that on their own part, the Senate has been keeping up with its ideals. However, he noted that “democracy is difficult for some people to really fathom,” which is the reason government at the centre is finding it really difficult.
The lawmaker representing Abia South also said: “You cannot have democracy without having democrats. Only democrats can give you democracy. Autocrats can never give you democracy. What autocrats want at every time is to say that their word is the law.”
However, he reiterated that it is the responsibility of the Senate to bring to the fore in its public debate owing to the disappointment; the disillusionment that most Nigerians are feeling today.
