The presidency has denied any involvement in the dethronement of the former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II by the state government, adding that such insinuation was untrue, malicious and politically motivated.
A statement issued by the President’s Spokesman, Garba Shehu, on Wednesday, said: “President Muhammadu Buhari has no involvement whatsoever in the dethronement of HRH Muhammadu Sanusi II from the position of Emir of Kano.”
According to the president, the appointment or removal of emirs and other traditional leaders as stipulated by the constitution is strictly within the jurisdiction of state governments.
Recall that the Kano State government removed Sanusi on Monday accusing him of total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the governor and other lawful authorities.
Therefore, President Buhari commended the people of Kano for keeping calm in the past few days since the dethronement. He prayed that the will of Allah will be done at all times and that the emirate/state and its people continue to experience progress irrespective of who is on the throne.
