Looted Funds: Bauchi Vows To Prosecute Predecessors Found Guilty

David Ugbabe

The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has vowed to recover all looted funds, and any former governor involved will be prosecuted along with their officials.

He said this while receiving members of the Assets and Funds Recovery Committee, which was constituted on July 12, 2019, and saddled with the responsibility of carrying out findings of mismanaged funds in the previous administrations.

The previous administrations of Mohammed Abubakar and Isa Yuguda were accused of allegedly looting assets and properties worth over a trillion naira.

In an effort to bring to book those found to be perpetrators, the committee, under the aegis of the Acting Chairman of the Committee, General Markus Koko (retd), while handing over the report to the governor, revealed that between during the tenures of M.A. Abubakar and Isa Yuguda as governors between 2007 and 2019, various diversions of government’s properties from 19 Ministries, Departments and Agencies were discovered.

He lauded the committee for their outstanding performance and assured that the report would be fully implemented so as to administer justice and equity.

He also added that the state attorney general and some members of the committee will study the recommendations of the Assets Recovery Committee for full prosecution of those found wanting.

He concluded that those in government must be held accountable.
