Miley Cyrus has infuriated lots of people in the past few days. After the Parents Television Council blasted her over her hosting gig at the Sunday, August 30 MTV Video Music Awards, several Catholics were left in anger when she promoted her surprise album “Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz” on Instagram.
Cyrus took to the photo-sharing site on Tuesday night, September 1 to post a photoshopped picture of Pope Francis holding a copy of her newly-dropped record. “All the cool kidzzzz are listening to #mileycyrusandherdeadpetz. check it out,” she wrote in the caption.
Many found the use of the Pope’s photo to promote Cyrus’ album offensive. “Enferma mental (mentally ill),” a fan commented in Spanish. Another said, “This is disrespectful.” Another fan agreed, “Yeah not okay with this, love u but love Pope Francis more.”
Cyrus announced “Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz” after performing a new song called “Dooo It!” at the VMAs. A joint effort with The Flaming Lips, the album boasts guest appearances from Big Sean, the former Disney star’s dad Billy Ray Cyrus and her frequent collaborator Mike WiLL Made It.
