Malia Obama adorably gave her younger sister, Sasha, a thumbs up when she spotted her chatting with Ryan Reynolds at the Canada State Dinner at the White House on Thursday, March 10.

In an image that has since gone viral online, Malia, 17, looks on as Sasha, 14, beams and gestures while talking to the Canadian-born Deadpool star, 39, who attended the dinner with his wife, Blake Lively.

This marks the first time the sisters have attended a state dinner since their father, Barack Obama, was elected President in 2008.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau later gave a nod to the teens during his speech.

“It’s also touching to meet Malia and Sasha, who are here at their first State Dinner,” he said, referencing his father, former Canadian Prime Minisher Pierre Trudeau. “And quite frankly, the memories for me of being a kid and not being old enough to attend these kinds of events with my father almost makes me wish I had gone through my teenage years as a child of a world leader — but not quite.”

Trudeau added that he admired both girls for their “extraordinary strength” and “grace, through what is a remarkable childhood and young adulthood that will give you extraordinary strength and wisdom beyond your years for the rest of your life.”
