Man imprisoned for insulting Governor Masari on social media

One Gambo Saeed was on Monday sentenced to nine months imprisonment after Chief Magistrate Abdu Ladan was found guilty for insulting and defaming the character of Katsina Governor, Aminu Masari on social media, Vanguard reports.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Isa Liti, earlier told the court that Saeed was arraigned following complaints received from Mr Mansur Ali Mashi, Senior Special Assistant (SSA), to the Governor on Radio Monitoring.

According to the police prosecutor, Isa Liti: “Mashi said the accused abused Masari and called him names on social media.He said the accused person posted on the media that it was Governor Masari that influenced the impeachment of the Speaker of Katsina State House of Assembly, Aliyu Muduru.”

Liti said the charges were in accordance with sections 399, 392 and 114 of the Penal Code.

Saeed was arraigned for intentional insult, defamation of the governor’s character and inciting disturbanceand confessed to have committed the offences.
