The human remains of a 22-year-old Nigerian woman who had been missing for over a year has been identified in the woods in Dedham, United States authorities say.

The woman, Susan Anyanwu-Corbin who went missing in February 2016 according to authorities was identified by Norfolk County District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey.

She was reported missing to Boston Police, the district attorney said.

The late Anyanwu-Corbin was born in Nigeria but traveled to the United States about four-to-five years ago.

“We are looking for information about her disappearance,” Morrissey said. The death remains under investigation.

The Facebook page for Anyanwu-Corbin shows her last post was on Feb. 11, 2016. She wrote, “Why all this God?”

No details has been gotten as regards the cause or manner of death. Dental records were used to match the remains to Anyanwu-Corbin.

Authorities said someone recognized the jewellery found with the remains and that helped investigators identify Anyanwu-Corbin as the woman found dead in the woods in Dedham.

“Today does not mark the end of anything, but something more like the beginning,” Morrissey said.

Investigators are looking for anyone who knows her and knows anything about her whereabouts when she went missing.

The remains were found on April 4 around 6 p.m. when a resident was walking in the area of High Street in Dedham and found bones. The bones were found in a wooded area. The man notified police after the discovery.

Authorities determined the remains were of an African-American woman. She had been dead for several months.

Investigators said the remains were found in an area separated by a fence from a senior housing complex. Officials found a sweatshirt with the logo for Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, as well as a bracelet that said “Peace” on it and a ring.

Officials are asking anyone with information to contact the Dedham Police Department at 781-751-9300 or State Police detectives attached to the Norfolk DA’s Office at 781-830-4990.
