Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed is once again under attack from citizens after he ‘betrayed’ his own country by saying Senegal makes the best jollof rice.
The minister made this ‘blunder’ while responding to a question from CNN’s Richard Quest, who is in the country for filming.
During Friday night’s show, Lai Mohammed was asked “Which country makes the best Jollof rice,” and he responded with “I’ll want to say probably Senegal”.
Senegal?!” Quest said. “I hear a shock across the country, I hear a sigh across the country. Minister, thank you very much,” he added.
Many Nigerians shocked by the minister’s response have since taken to social media to express their disappointment, describing his response as ‘throwing the nation under the bus’, instead of seizing the opportunity to sell the country’s image.
Meanwhile, Richard Quest of CNN‘s Quest Means Business has attempted to make clear what really transpired during the interview. In the minister’s defense, Quest says he misheard the question. He wrote on Twitter;
